Our heritage

At Mimosa Hostilis Shop, our heritage is deeply rooted in the rich traditions and natural abundance of northern Brazil, where the practice of jurema is still alive and thriving. Our Mimosa Hostilis cultivars are cultivated, nurtured, and harvested with the utmost care and respect for the land and its traditions. We are dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of quality, ensuring that every batch of root bark we sell is sustainably harvested and climate-positive.

Each harvest is carefully managed to protect the ecosystem, using methods passed down through generations. This approach not only preserves the environment but also supports the communities that continue to practice jurema. By choosing our MHRB, you are not only getting the best quality root bark but also contributing to the preservation of an important cultural heritage.

Sustainable Cultivation Practices

We are dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of quality, ensuring that every batch of root bark we sell is sustainably harvested and climate-positive. Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in our meticulous harvesting practices:

  • Selective Harvesting: We only harvest roots from trees that are 40 to 90 years old or older, ensuring that the trees are mature and able to withstand the process.
  • Non-Damaging Techniques: The roots are harvested without damaging the trees. After harvesting, we allow the trees to recover for 2 months. During this time, new tender roots begin to grow, and within 8 months, the trees are ready for another harvest.
  • Reforestation Efforts: We maintain reforestation plantations of small trees and have parent trees that are responsible for spreading seeds within a 100-square-meter radius. This practice ensures continuous regeneration and preservation of the Mimosa Hostilis population.
